PATHWAYS – Vocational Learning Opportunity

PATHWAYS Open Information Evening Tuesday 3rd February 2015.

PATHWAYS is a  new curriculum offer available through the collaboration of ESPA College and Sunderland College to provide a pioneering new education opportunity to young people with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) aged 16-24 in the Sunderland Area.

PATHWAYS offers a total programme of joined up learning from highly experienced specialist and general further education providers working hand in hand to deliver a unique programme of study grounded within developing vocationally based skills in a very autism specific way.

There are 4 PATHWAYS –

  1. Good Health, Wellbeing and Communication
  2. Independence and Community Participation
  3. Employment
  4. Independent Living and Working

The complexity and level of independence required by the student increases as you go from PATHWAY 1 to 4.

In essence, the PATHWAYS programme centres on vocational progression for the learner and can be offered as an alternative for some students with ASC to the traditional ESPA College curriculum. Students for this programme would be those who are assessed as being capable to make progress within the GFE environment as part of a larger and carefully considered, supported programme of study.
