The Diagnostic Process
The Centre receives a formal referral and confirmation of funding
An appointment is arranged
The person will be asked to bring along others e.g. parent(s), sibling or family friend who can provide a background of the person now and their early years
The purpose of the assessment will be defined
Background information will be sought from the person, others who know them well and from reports of previous assessments, incidences, difficulties etc
The person will be interviewed using appropriate formal tools for making clinical diagnosis
Further assessments may include psychometry to analyse the person’s cognitive abilities and any other learning, educational or occupational difficulties. Social difficulties and sensory problems can also be discussed
The multi-disciplinary team meet to discuss their findings and conclusions. This is discussed with the person and then put into a written report for them and the referrer(s)
